Guidelines For Today's Living

Guidelines For Today’s Living

By Robert Louis Stevenson

Make up your mind to be happy… learn to find your pleasure in simple things.

  1. Make the best of circumstances. No one has everything , and everyone has something of sorrow.
  2. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
  3. Don’t let criticism worry you… you can’t please everybody.
  4. Don’t let your neighbors set your standards… be yourself.
  5. Do things you enjoy doing… but stay out of debt.
  6. Don’t borrow trouble. Imaginary things are harder to bear than actual ones.
  7. Since hate poisons the soul, do not cherish enmities and grudges.
  8. Have many interests… if you can’t travel, read about places.
  9. Don’t hold post-mortems or spend time brooding over sorrows and mistakes.
  10. Don’t be the one who never gets over things.
  11. Keep busy at something… a very busy person never has time to be unhappy.

This list was written by Robert Louis Stevenson over 100 years ago and is still so relevant today. I read it in a little book that I bought my Mom for Mother's Day and thought I'd like to share it with you.

Have a good day!
